Porch, deck and railing repair in Telford, PA
Structural porch repair, deck and railing repair or replacement, and open stairwell railings, built to be leaned on.
Chapter 01
A rotted post and a wobbly rail are the same warning
A porch tells you early when something is wrong. A post that gives when you press it, a rail that moves at the top, a step with a soft edge, boards that spring where they used to be firm. Water is almost always the cause: it sits at the foot of a post or in a joint, and the wood underneath slowly stops being wood.
Joel MacLeod repairs porches, decks and railings for homeowners in Telford, PA and around Montgomery and Bucks County. Twenty-five years in home construction means he reads the damage on the surface and works out how far down it goes before he quotes anything.

Fixing the structure before the finish
Structural porch repair starts with finding sound wood. Rotted material is cut back until the framing is solid, posts are supported while the bad section is replaced, and new members are tied in so the load travels the way it is meant to. Cosmetic fixes over weak framing only hide the problem until the next wet season.
Railings come next. A rail is only as good as its posts and its fastenings, so Joel checks both. Where a section can be repaired, he repairs it. Where it has reached the end of its life, he replaces it, matches the profile to what is already on the house, and sets the new rail plumb and level so it looks like it was always there.
Deck work follows the same order: decide what can stay, replace what cannot, and fasten everything for the weight of people, furniture and a full summer of cookouts.
Chapter 03
Solid to lean on, painted to match
When the carpentry is done, raw wood is primed and painted so the repair blends into the rest of the porch. Gaps are filled, nail heads are set and the old debris goes onto the truck instead of staying in your flower beds.

A half wall in a loft, opened up with a proper railing
Railings are not only a porch job. A half wall that closes in a stairway can come out, and an open stairwell railing goes in with posts anchored to the framing and balusters spaced so the stair feels bigger and stays safe.
