Bathroom Faucets, Vanities and Shower Doors in Telford, PA

Dripping faucets, dated vanities, running toilets and shower curtains that want to be glass doors, fixed by Joel MacLeod from the shutoff valve out.

Chapter 01

The drip, the dated vanity and the curtain that never dries

A dripping faucet is a worn cartridge or seat that kept getting patched, and sometimes the honest answer is a new faucet and not another repair. A toilet that runs after every flush has a tired flapper or fill valve, or it is old enough, cracked or rocking on its flange that replacing it is the sensible move. Joel MacLeod looks at the part that is actually failing before he suggests swapping the whole fixture.

The bigger complaints are about the room. A vanity with a swollen door and a stained top, a shower curtain that sticks to your leg, a bathroom that looked fine in 1995. None of that needs a gut renovation. A sink, a vanity and a glass door can change how the room works and feels, and Joel handles each of them one at a time or all together.

Sink, vanity and toilet swaps, done in the order water demands

Every plumbing job starts at the shutoff valves, and Joel tests that they hold before he disconnects anything. For a sink and faucet, the new faucet goes onto the top before the sink is set where possible, because working under a vanity is cramped and slow. New supply lines go on instead of reusing old braided ones, and every joint is snugged, run and watched for a bead of water.

A vanity replacement means freeing the old cabinet from the wall and the plumbing, scraping the caulk line, then leveling the new cabinet and anchoring it to the studs. Bathroom floors and walls are rarely square, so the cabinet is shimmed and scribed until it sits flat against both. Then the top, the sink, the faucet and the drain go back on in that order.

A toilet swap is a wax ring job. The old toilet comes up, the flange is checked and the old wax is scraped clean, a new ring goes down, and the bowl is set level. Bolts are tightened a little at a time, alternating sides, so the porcelain is never stressed, then a new supply line is connected and the tank is filled and flushed several times.

Chapter 03

A glass shower door has to be plumb, sealed and leak-checked

Swapping a curtain for glass is a precision job. A frameless door is heavy and unforgiving: the hinges have to be anchored where the wall can carry them, and the door only swings and seals evenly if it hangs plumb. Framed doors are more forgiving of a wall that is out of true. Joel installs both kinds in Telford and around Montgomery and Bucks County, and he measures the opening before anything is ordered or cut.

At the end, the joints are sealed, water is run through the shower, and he watches the edges for a drip before he gathers his tools. The old fixtures go out with him, the floor is cleaned, and you are left with a bathroom that works. Jack Schultz's review says Joel stood by his original estimate, and finishing without surprises is the reason that sentence is possible.
