Trim and storage
Custom trim, closets and cabinet organizers in Telford, PA
Bare window openings finished with casing, cramped closets rebuilt, and base cabinets you can finally reach into.
Chapter 01
Why a room reads as unfinished
A window with no casing looks like the drywall crew left early. A closet with one shelf and one rod wastes most of its depth. A base cabinet is deep and dark, and whatever lands at the back stays there until you get down on your knees. None of these is a big repair, which is why they sit for years, and all of them are carpentry that Joel MacLeod does inside a house in Telford or Montgomery County.
The fix starts with measuring the opening or the box as it really is, not as the plans said it would be. Walls are rarely plumb and floors are rarely level, and trim or a closet built to a drawing instead of to the room shows every gap. He builds to what is actually there, and he tells you what it will look like before a cut is made.

Trim scribed to the wall, not forced against it
Window casing and custom trim only look custom when the joints close. On a smooth wall that means tight mitres at the corners and a reveal that stays even around the opening. On exposed brick it means scribing: marking the profile of the wall onto the trim and cutting to that line, so the board sits against uneven masonry without a shadow line or a sliver of daylight behind it.
Closets get the same treatment. Shelves are fitted to the walls they land on, rods sit at heights that suit what hangs from them, and the uprights are fixed into framing instead of into drywall alone. Joel has more than 25 years in home construction, and a closet that holds a full load without sagging is the kind of detail that experience shows in.
Chapter 03
Caulked, filled and painted before he leaves
Trim is not finished when it is nailed up. Nail holes are filled, joints are caulked where trim meets the wall, and the whole piece is painted so it reads as part of the room instead of raw wood waiting for someone to get to it. Skip that last step and a good install still looks like a half job.

Storage built into what you already own
Pull-out baskets, closet builds and wall safes
A pull-out organizer turns a deep base cabinet inside out. Wire baskets ride out on slides, so the pot at the back comes to you instead of the other way around. Joel fits them into the cabinets you already have, which means no new kitchen, only a cabinet that works.
A custom closet gets built around what you actually keep in it, whether that is long coats, folded stacks or shoes. A wall safe is set between the studs, so it sits inside the wall rather than bolted onto the front of it, and the opening is trimmed to look like it belongs.
